Good day friends! Not only am I extremely excited about our special guest today, fellow Washington DC Romance Writer and Author, Kimberly Kincaid, but I’m also feeling ravenously hungry for some reason…read our fun interview to find out why. Warning, scrumptiousness ahead…
CLF: Hi Kimberly! Thank you so much for being my guest today I was just visiting your gorgeous website and it has a delicious picture of a young man being fed blueberries by his lady. That image stuck with me and I think it’s because I’m used to being shown strawberries or cherries as the representative “sexy” or “romantic” fruit. Tell me what you love about that picture on your site and why the blueberry is so ripe for the feeding.
KK: I like to break out of the box! I think feeding someone you care about is fundamentally appealing on several levels. On the page, it’s the perfect way to show a character’s emotions and intentions without telling a thing. In my novella, Love On The Line, the hero Noah makes spaghetti for the heroine, Violet. On the surface, he’s just boiling water and warming up sauce, but truly, what he’s trying to convey is a deeper meaning. It’s not necessarily sensual, but that scene doesn’t end in the kitchen! His feeding her, as it were, created intimacy between them.
CLF: Doing our part in this mini-interview to spread music love, please feel free to gush over Matt Nathanson (or any musician/band) in let’s say, three sentences. Ready? Go—
KK: I wrote the first book in my Pine Mountain series (Turn Up The Heat, available early next year) *all* because I heard “Come On Get Higher” on the radio one night. The song is like this flawless little emotion-capsule of what I wanted in my story, and it exploded from my head after I heard that song. His music is just so evocative and lyrically brilliant.
CLF: What can you tell us about your new release Love on the Line? (Big congrats by the way!)
KK: Thank you! Love On The Line is the story of a rough, gruff detective who is injured in the line of duty and has to rely on a sexy, soulful personal chef as he heals. There’s a dash of mystery, and a whole lot of heat in the kitchen! I was lucky enough to have a little time between projects, and this novella was a perfect way to spend it.
CLF: I’m a newbie to Foodie Romances, but I definitely sense the appeal and can’t wait to read yours. What is it about the genre that you love most? Is there a favorite trope you have within the genre?
KK: I am equal opportunity with tropes. I love them all! And they all fit nicely around food. The thing I love most about foodie romance is that it incorporates all five senses organically. Being able to weave in the sight and sounds and smells of the food in such a natural way takes those scenes to the next level for me. I feel like I’m right there with the characters, living it like they do.
CLF: For this part, I’d like to do a little Man War Themed word association. Ready, set, go! (If you aren’t already following Kimberly on Facebook, go find her! Friday Man Wars is out of this world!)
♥When I say Uncle Mason, you say-

KK: Oh yeah. No doubt. Taylor Kinney!
Thanks for playing Kimberly, you are a super sport! Friends, please enjoy a little taste from Love on the Line:
“You were in my hospital room yesterday. Before I woke up.”
“I…I—”
But he barreled on, the memory as bright and vivid as if it had just happened a minute ago. “Your hair was braided, on your shoulders, and you were wearing a…a bracelet that sounded like wind chimes. You said the doctor was coming. It was you.”
The fan of her gold-tipped lashes fluttered wide, and the warm puff of her breath heated his cheek as she nodded. “I didn’t mean to intrude. I was looking for Jason, but I didn’t think you’d wake up.”
Noah shook his head to quell her apology. “It doesn’t matter,” he said, his resolve locking into place, and Violet went utterly still against him.
“It doesn’t?”
“No. You’re the first thing I’ve been able to remember since I got shot in the first place. In fact, you’re the only thing I can remember since I got shot.”
Kimberly Kincaid writes contemporary romance that splits the difference between sexy and sweet. When she’s not sitting cross-legged in an ancient desk chair known as “The Pleather Bomber”, she can be found practicing obscene amounts of yoga, whipping up anything from enchiladas to éclairs in her kitchen, or curled up with her nose in a book. Kimberly is a 2011 RWA Golden Heart® finalist who lives (and writes!) by the mantra that food is love. She is thrilled to have collaborated on a Christmas anthology with Donna Kauffman and Kate Angell, titled The Sugar Cookie Sweetheart Swap, to kick off her Pine Mountain foodie series with Kensington this October. Her first full-length novel, Turn Up the Heat, will follow in February 2014. Kimberly resides in northern Virginia with her wildly patient husband and their three daughters. Visit her any time at www.kimberlykincaid.com or come check her out on Facebook and Twitter.
Always love,
Carlene Love♥
